Direct payments are the government’s preferred mechanism for enabling personalised care and support for people who draw upon it, and that there is plenty of evidence of the significant benefits to people and their families who go down this route.
Yet since their introduction in 1996, take up of DPs has remained stubbornly low (currently around 25%).
This video, gives a flavour of the difference DPs can make to individuals lives and their families, as told by Grace, her Mum and her carers.
The video was made for West Midlands ADASS and shown at a 2024 conference exploring barriers to the takeup of direct payments.
