Integrated health and care: the local authority perspective

Kerrie Allward, Interim Director of Adult Social Care at Walsall MBC, is one of the key players in the Walsall Together integrated care partnership

Local authority social care can sometimes be overshadowed by NHS organisations in the integrated care partnerships being esablished across the country.

That this is not the case in Walsall is down to social care making its voice heard, loud and clear, and being prepared to step up and take a lead.

The rewards of doing so are made clear in this interview, no least in relation to the current Covid-19 crisis.

'I thank my lucky stars every day through this pandemic that we've had the Partnership in place' says Kerrie. The Partnership senior management team already in place was able to step up into in the control and comand structure required to manage the response and has been 'absolutely fundamental' to ensuring a robust response.
