There were 500,000 errors in medicines administration reported to regulator CQC by registered care providers in 2015-19, some resulting in serious injury and even death.

While digital medicines management, which reduces significantly the scope for errors, is becoming widespread in residential care, it is not so in domiciliary care.

CLGdotTV was delighted to be asked to script and produce this animation that makes the case and points out that part of the solution is already in place.

A recent Social Care Digital Innovation Accelerator 2019/20 project has produced a stakeholder specification outlining the requirements of a holistic digital medicines’ solution for domiciliary care.

The document has been peer reviewed by stakeholders across care providers, local government, pharmacies, service users, strategic and policy organisations, as well as a range of technical providers.

The project was co-funded by five councils, match-funded by NHS Digital and brought together by CC2i on behalf of the LGA.

More information and the stakeholder specification can be found at https://www.digitalsocialcare.co.uk/social-care-technology/digital-medicines-support-in-domiciliary-care/
