Choosing from 389 ‘expressions of interest’ for £7.5m of Local Digital funding

SHARE

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government have £7.5m of funding for local digital projects. MHCLG’s Linda O’Halloran describes the allocation process.

Information about the background to the LD Fund, and details about what MHCLG are looking to achieve, were covered in an earlier CLGdotTV programme published just before the deadline for expressions of interest closed on 5 October.

We caught up with Linda, who is Head of the Local Digital Collaboration Unit, at Digitech18 to ask who had applied, what they were looking to do, and how the process of selecting projects for funding was unfolding.

The conversation reveals that the allocation of funds is just part of a much wider agenda to help councils (and their suppliers) move forward by adopting common approaches to common problems.

The role of suppliers, opportunities for SMEs arising from the fund, and the tie up with procurement initiatives are covered in some detail in the conversation.

The outcome of the first round of funding allocation is due to be announced between 28 November and 3 December.
